LATEST DONALD HISTORY SOCIETY NEWS

Our email address has now changed to incorporate our new name. Emails addressed to us should now be sent to: donaldhistorysociety@gmail.com

We are now the Donald Historical Society Incorporated. Our name has changed, but we are still operating as before.

The Donald Archives Office is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.

Following an agreement with the editor of The Buloke Times, we will soon be including excerpts from the Times that feature reminiscences from contributors who have lived in the Donald region and have provided interesting recollections of early life in the region. These will be found under the menu heading Reminiscences

At a recent meeting, the Donald History Group resolved to introduce the opportunity for interested people living outside the Donald locale to become Associate Members of our community.

To discover more about these initiatives, simply click on the relevant tag on our menu bar to the left of the screen.

WELCOME

Welcome to the Donald History Society website.

We are a voluntary group that aims to bring together people with a love for their heritage, and who admire the achievements of people of the past, and who desire to discover, record, and publicise these people, their lives, and the times in which they lived.

The Society manages the Donald District Archives, Donald Court House Museum and the Donald Agricultural Museum, and part manages the Old Police Camp, all located in the township of Donald. We are situated approximately 3 hours drive northwest of Melbourne, in the state of Victoria, Australia.

In 1972 we were instrumental in gaining recognition of the Mount Jeffcott range as a Flora and Fauna Reserve. Currently we are associated with Friends of Mount Jeffcott and continue to promote and record the unique natural history of our district.

Established in 1962, the Society is always happy to welcome new members.

We meet in the Donald Court House Museum at 7.30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. February, March, April, September, October, and November. Our Meetings for the months of May, June, July, and August commence at 2.00 pm. Our meeting sessions generally comprise a general meeting of the Society, followed by a presentation from a guest speaker who tells us about a relevant topic. Our annual dinner in November also includes a guest speaker, usually from outside the local area, who speaks on a topic of interest.

Organised tours around the district or to areas of special interest are a highlight of the year.

We are an active member of the Western Victorian Association of Historical Societies and send delegates to Zone and Annual meetings.
