The Donald Archives office is now open again on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm, and at other times by appointment.

The Courthouse Museum will remain closed to the public until the situation regarding coronavirus restrictions becomes clearer.

Following an agreement with the editor of The Buloke Times, we will soon be including excerpts from the Times that feature reminiscences from contributors who have lived in the Donald region, and have been providing extremely interesting recollections of early life in the region. These will be found under the menu heading Reminiscences

At a recent meeting, the Donald History Group resolved to introduce the opportunity for interested people living outside the Donald locale to become Associate Members of our community.

We have also decided to provide the opportunity for website visitors to browse selections from our extensive Image Library showing the history of this unique part of Victoria. We will progressively transfer these images to this site for viewing and for ordering copies of interest.

To discover more about these initiatives, simply click on the relevant tag on our menu bar to the left of the screen.

Welcome to the Donald History and Natural History Group website.

We are a voluntary group which aims to bring together people who have a love for their heritage, admire the achievements of people of the past, and desire to discover, record and publicise these people, their lives, and the times in which they lived.

The Group manages the Donald District Archives, Donald Court House Museum and the Agricultural Museum, and part manages the Old Police Camp, all located in the township of Donald, situated approximately 3 hours drive north west of Melbourne, in the state of Victoria, Australia.

In 1972 we were instrumental in gaining recognition of the Mount Jeffcott range as a Flora and Fauna Reserve. Currently we are associated with Friends of Mount Jeffcott and continue to promote and record the unique natural history of our district.

Established in 1962, the Group is always happy to welcome new members.

We meet in the Donald Court House Museum at 7.30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. February, March, April, September, October, and November. Our Meetings for the months May, June, July, and August will commence at 2.00pm. Meetings include a general meeting plus a guest speaker who speaks on an area of local history or natural history. Our annual dinner in November also includes a guest speaker, usually from outside the local area, who speaks on a topic of interest.

Organised bus trips around the district or to areas of special interest are a highlight of the year.

We are active member of the WVAHS and send delegates to Zone and Annual meetings.
